Granola

Ingredients

  • 250g nature’s meal (dry, do not add water)
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • ¼ cup canola oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 ¼ cup nuts/seeds/dried fruit of your choice (our home bakers did 1 cup nuts & seeds and ¼ cup fruit)

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 150°c
  2. In one large bowl, mix the Nature’s Meal, brown sugar, kosher salt, and cinnamon.
  3. Once combined, add the fruit and nut combination which most appeals to your taste
  4. In a second smaller bowl, combine the honey, canola oil, and vanilla. Once thoroughly mixed, pour the honey mixture over the nature’s meal mixture. Then using your hands, mix the ingredients forming clusters of your desired size.
  5. Plop the clusters over the lined cookie sheet and bake for 20 to 30 minutes until the clusters are light golden in colour.
  6. Be sure to keep an eye on the clusters throughout their time in the oven as those that become a deeper golden will have a burnt flavour.
  7. Once light golden colour is reached, allow the clusters to cool completely.
  8. They will harden as they cool

This recipe can also be used in a slow cooker – cooked on low for 10 hours
